One “industry insider” claims the award-winning VR game will be available on Sony’s next-gen VR headset.
Earlier this week, Sony officially announced the PlayStation VR2. The reveal was made at the company’s CES 2022 press conference, during which they revealed new information about the next-gen console VR headset. This included everything from the official specs to an original VR game set within the Horizon: Zero Dawn universe.
According to a new rumor, however, Horizon might not be the only popular video game franchise heading to the PS VR2. This week, Nick “Shpeshal” Baker—co-founder and co-host of XboxEra—posted a tweet stating that Sony and Valve have reached a deal to bring Half-Life: Alyx to the PlayStation VR2. Unfortunately, however, there’s no mention of a potential release date.
If true, this could be a major win for Sony. Originally released back in March of 2020, Half-Life: Alyx has since established itself as one of if not the best single-player action-adventure games currently available on PC VR headsets. Set before the events of the original Half-Life, HL:A puts you in the shoes of the titular Alyx Vanve, a brilliant resistance fighter and certified bad-ass, as she navigates the alien-infested treats of City 17.
I’m not exaggerating when I call Half-Life: Alyx a master craft in VR game design. From the revolutionary VR gameplay mechanics to the expertly-crafted environments and enemies, HL:A is a near-perfect single-player adventure, especially when paired with the Valve Index headset and its “Knuckles” controllers.
While we still don’t know exactly what the PS VR2 looks like, we did learn that the headset features a 4K resolution, 110-degree field-of-view, and headset-based haptics. Combined with the PS VR2 Sense Controller, the PS VR2 may just have what it takes to deliver an in-headset experience worthy of Valve’s award-winning VR game.
