‘Medal Of Honor: Above And Beyond’ Announced For Quest 2

Oculus’ big-budget WWII VR Shooter arrives on Oculus Quest 2 headsets later this year.

After a somewhat rocky launch on PC VR headsets, Oculus today announced that Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is launching on Oculus Quest 2 headsets. In this fast-paced first-person shooter, players embark on a high-octane adventure that will take them everywhere from the beaches of Normandy to the bowels of a German U-boat.

Developed by Respawn Entertainment in collaboration with Oculus Studios, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond has you stepping into the role of an Allied agent of the OSS (Office of Strategic Intelligence) and participating in some of the biggest moments of World War II—including the Allied invasion of Normandy beach—to lesser-known events, such as the infiltration of a German aircraft.

The single-player campaign offers roughly 10-12 hours of action to enjoy. Along the way, you’ll take up arms alongside Allied soldiers, sabotage enemy operations, and participate in a variety of secret missions using an arsenal of historically accurate weaponry.

In addition to the single-player campaign, you’ll have the chance to battle alongside friends and strangers via online multiplayer. The game features 10 unique maps to explore, from a French winery to a snow-covered power station. There are five game modes: Domination, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Blast Radius (king-of-the-hill with rocket launchers), and Mad Bomber (bomb defusal).

Then there’s The Gallery, a collection of mini-documentaries meant to provide historical context for some of the events shown in-game. This includes Colette, a 24-minute short documentary that follows Colette Marin-Catherine, a former French Resistance Fighter, as she visits the concentration camp in which her brother was killed during the war. The VR short film was so well-received, it took home the award for Best Documentary Short (Short Subject) at the 2021 Academy Awards.
